چکیده

The Live Sequence Charts (LSC) language is an extension of the well-known Message Sequence Charts by means to specify liveness and to distinguish possible runs of a system from protocols that all runs should adhere to. This paper studies the expressive power of the automaton-based LSC semantics [11] in terms of temporal logic. The main result is that bonded core LSCs have an exact characterisation in terms of DCSCTL, a proper sublanguage of first-order prenex CTL. That is, for each bonded core LSC specification there is an equivalent DCSCTL formula and vice versa. Both directions of the proof are constructive.

Some Results on the Expressive Power and Complexity of LSCs

We survey some of the main results regarding the complexity and expressive power of Live Sequence Charts (LSCs). We first describe the two main semantics given to LSCs: a trace-based semantics and an operational semantics. The expressive power of the language is then examined by describing translations into various temporal logics. Some limitations of the language are also discussed. Finally, w...

Extending Compositional Message Sequence Graphs

We extend the formal developments for message sequence charts (MSCs) to support scenarios with lost and found messages. We define a notion of extended compositional message sequence charts (ECMSCs) which subsumes the notion of compositional message sequence charts in expressive power but additionally allows to define lost and found messages explicitly. As usual, ECMSCs might be combined by mean...

Causal Message Sequence Charts

Scenario languages based on Message Sequence Charts (MSCs) and related notations have been widely studied in the last decade [14, 13, 2, 9, 5, 12, 8]. The high expressive power of scenarios renders many basic problems concerning these languages undecidable. The most expressive class for which several problems are known to be decidable is one which possesses a behavioral property called “existen...

Synchronous sequence charts in action

We identify a number of styles for using Interworkings (synchronous sequence charts), together with their roles in the context of the OS1 reference model. We employ the well-known ABP (alternating bit protocol) to see how Intcrworkings can and cannot bc used. This experiment shows that the charts are attractive from an intuitive point of view, but when used in their purest form, lack sufficient...

Message Sequence Charts

Message sequence charts (MSCs) constitute an attractive visual formalism that is widely used to capture system requirements during the early design stages in domains such as telecommunication software. A version of MSCs called sequence diagrams is one of the behavioral diagram types adopted in the UML. In this chapter we survey MSCs and their extensions. In particular, we discuss high level MSC...
